We came back to Honolulu this summer again... Did weekly surf lessons with Ivan Duque for me a middle-aged mom and my daughters ages 10 and 12. It was once again the highlight of our summer. I'm not totally into learning surfing - after all... And we had a blast last year. I highly recommend staying away from the hotel lessons.. And unfortunately, the waves don't always cooperate. So for your money and memories... He'll pick you up, no worries about getting somewhere. Ivan honors safety first and gives clear instruction and unlimited encouragement. He's just a very very good person, and loves kids as well... There are times you are waiting around for waves, and he will have you ROLLING with laughter. Bottom line: Ivan is well trained, experienced, FUN and kind. He has your best interest in mind, for sure. Whether it's a one-time lesson for a visitor, or a local who wants to start or improve surfing... Wouldn't dream of anyone else taking my kids into the water; he'll find the right waves in Waikiki to take you to - and he picks you up, suits you up, and drops you off. And the prices trump any hotel or beachfront in town. Trust me and my very picky daughters... You'll love it and will never forget it. Able to surf 4-7 ft waves now.. If we come back next year... We recently spent several weeks on Oahu, and had the luxury of finding out from locals and tourists who they believe is the ideal Surfing School... Ivan and Jules, or Julia as we called her are outstanding instructors... They are the nicest people who really care about your surfing experience... I learned a lot about life in general from Ivan while waiting for the next wave...! They have the true Aloha spirit. And they can TEACH surfing so well. Ivan was spot on when it came to detailed, clear instruction; he was firm but fun.. They're also why celebrities return to them - because they are down-to-earth, real surfers who don't want to take advantage of tourists as many hotels might do... And you WILL learn to surf. Ivan and Jules go out of their way to make sure you and your family get the best surfing experience possible; it's why we returned to them. We wouldn't consider anyone else.
